High Performance Compounds
Semi Aromatic Polyamide:
AKROLOY® PA is based on PA66+PA6I/6T with a glass transition temperature of around 176°F (80°C). Up to that temperature it keeps the excellent mechanical performance. The compounds are characterized by lower moisture absorption compared to standard PA66 compounds and good surface quality even at high glass fiber concentration.
PARA:
AKROLOY® PARA has a glass transition temperature of around 194°F (90°C) and shows very good mechanical performance up to that temperature. Due to the very low moisture absorption, you see nearly no drop in mechanics in conditioned state. The compounds show an excellent flowability and outstanding surface quality.
Polyphthalamides (PPA):
AKRO developed an AKROMID® T product line of different PPA compounds (Polyphthalamides) to meet a wide range of technical requirements, including easy processability.
AKROMID® T5 is based on a conventional PA6T copolymer. It has a melting point of 615°F (325°C) and a glass transition temperature of 275°F (135°C). Up to that temperature it keeps the excellent mechanical properties, making it the ideal engineered material for demanding applications requiring durability and strength even at elevated temperatures.
AKROMID® T9 is based on a PA9T homopolymer. The lower melting point of 570°F (300°C) widens the processing window and resistance to thermal degradation versus other PPAs. T9 absorbs significantly less moisture, which leads to a higher consistency of the glass transition temperature at around 257°F (125°C), even in conditioned state. Therefore, the mechanical performance remains on a higher-level during moisture uptake and temperature increase, exceeding conventional PA6T compounds.
Polyamide Compounds
Along with Polyamide 6.6, Polyamide 6 is the commonly used grade of engineering thermoplastics due to its versatility. AKROMID® A, B and C are based on partially crystalline polyamide which offer excellent strength and stiffness, high heat distortion temperature and good resistance to chemicals. The compounds combine high heat resistance up to 445°F (230°C) depending on the stabilization, and good electrical properties. All products can be modified to customer requirements with glass fibers, carbon fibers, flame-retardant additives, or impact modifiers.
Polyketone Compounds
Aliphatic Polyketone (PK) is a thermoplastic polymer with characteristic properties such as:
- Strong chemical and hydrolysis resistance
- reduced moisture absorption
- short cycle times due to rapid crystallization
- very good tribological properties
- low CO2 footprint
- melting point of 430°F (220°C)
PK is becoming increasingly popular due to its environmental friendliness compared to other plastics. This is because it contains carbon monoxide (CO) as a comonomer. Carbon monoxide is an industrial waste gas that contributes to global warming. However, by using CO in the structure of Polyketone, this gas is bound and converted into a useful monomer.
Polyester Compounds
PRECITE® is the brand for thermoplastic polyesters at AKRO-PLASTIC GmbH. Due its low moisture absorption, PRECITE® has an exceptionally high dimensional stability in comparison to polyamides and is used for applications with high demands to precision. Furthermore, the thermoplastic polyesters have an outstanding heat aging performance as well as excellent gliding properties and wear resistance. The portfolio consists of PBT, PET, PBT/PET blend, PBT/ASA blend and can be offered as flame-retardant or hydrolysis resistant compound.
Reinforcements
AKRO-PLASTIC is specialized in the production of highly reinforced polyamides. AKRO has developed a technology in partnership with its sister company, the extruder manufacturer FEDDEM, that consistently provides the same high quality of all products, irrespective of the production site. Furthermore, these products exhibit higher strength than those of our market competitors due to a gentle compounding of the fiber reinforced materials. Core competence is in long glass fiber as well as carbon fiber processing.
Flame Retardant Materials
A customized portfolio of flame-retardant products, all free of red phosphorus, halogenated flame retardants and PFAS-containing anti-drip agents.
